Design of colloidal and nanoparticle hydrogel coatings
for medical applications
Laboratory description :
L’École Supérieure de Physique et de Chimie Industrielles de la Ville de Paris (ESPCI Paris) is a “Grande École d’ingénieurs” and an internationally renowned research center constituted of 17 laboratories. The ESPCI Paris is proud of its strong research collaborations with industry as well as its research-oriented education program in physics, chemistry, and biology. The selected candidate will join the Physico-Chimie et Formulation (PCF) team within the Chimie Moléculaire, Macromoléculaire,Matériaux (C3M) laboratory.
The C3M laboratory broadly focuses on the design, synthesis and study of
organic, polymeric, and composite materials organized at different scales. The laboratory is known for conducting fundamental research inspired by and oriented towards industrial applications.
Research aims :
The project will focus on designing deposition processes of colloids and nanoparticles on hydrogel membranes and investigating the phenomena occurring upon contact with biological tissues. A special attention will be placed on the synthesis and processing of inorganic particles and coatings. The chemical, physico-chemical and morphological properties of the colloidal coatings will be adjusted to identify parameters governing these processes and propose predictive models.
The project will be conducted in very close collaboration with the Centre des Matériaux (Mines Paris) for adhesion and microscopic characterization as well as with surgeon partners at the Alfort National Veterinary School and Paul Brousse Hospital, to assess the clinical relevance and perform in vivo studies.
Key-words : nanoparticles, colloidal coatings, biological tissues, adhesion, microscopy, experimental work.
Candidate profile and recruitment terms :
Knowledge and skills : The candidate should have a strong background in the synthesis of organic and inorganic colloids as well as a solid experience as an experimentalist in microscopy, polymer and nanoparticle physico-chemistry. An intimate knowledge of the structural, thermal, and/or mechanical characterization of polymeric materials is a major plus. We are particularly interested in candidates who are driven to tackle fundamental research problems.
Required training : the candidate must have a PhD.
Principal Investigators : Pr. Laurent Corté and Pr. Sophie Norvez
Starting date : September 2022
Duration : 6 Months
Location : C3M, ESPCI Paris, France
Salary : The salary will be adjusted to candidates’ background and expertise
