Two different modes of coalescence of liquid drops in a confined space

Recently we found several scaling laws on wetting, granular materials, and fracture of materials. This is as a result of performing experimental and theoretical studies at the same time. In this talk, we pick up coalescence of viscous drops. After briefly reviewing recent development in the related fields, we discuss two different types of coalescence recently found in a Hele-Shaw cell. We develop scaling theory for these phenomena and demonstrate the agreement of the theory with our experimental data.
