How to come to ESPCI Paris

ESPCI Paris has a clear desire to welcome more foreign students and scientists. To achieve these goals, the International Relations office has a demanding policy of targeting the best students and scientists. Excellence is the first quality of our academic and scientific partners. At ESPCI Paris, courses are taught in French in the first and second year and in English in the third year.

Programs dedicated to foreign students, including dual degrees, are most of the time enriched by scholarships awarded by the governments, ESPCI Fund or our industrial partners.

a) Double degree and integration into the 2nd year of the ESPCI engineering curriculum

Fifteen per cent of ESPCI’s foreign students are welcomed in the engineering cycle, and a large part of them follow double degree programs. These double degrees are special agreements signed with our foreign partners and guarantee to the students the recognition of the followed curriculum by their home institution and by ESPCI.
The majority of the students preparing a double-degree are recruited through the ParisTech common recruitment program in Brazil, Colombia, China, Russia.

The students who come to ESPCI via the joint recruitment ParisTech program, within the framework of a double diploma or not, integrate the 2nd year of ESPCI’s engineering cycle.

b) The first year of the ESPCI ingénieur cycle

There are different recruitment procedures allowing foreign students to enter into the ESPCI 1st Year ingénieur cycle:

• The X-ESPCI joint competition for students coming from preparatory classes specialized in Physics and Chemistry (CPGE – filière PC) – Concours PC-étranger:
https://www.espci.fr/fr/profils/candidat/

• « Filière universitaire internationale » (FUI). This international entrance examination is organized by École Polytechnique for international students who are in Bachelor in foreign universities – joint competition X-ESPCI-ISAE SUPAERO:

• The common selection procedures are shared with the schools of the joint competition Mines-Ponts and the ParisTech schools. This procedure allows the bachelor students having followed a joint course in physics and chemistry in French to apply to the first year of the ESPCI ingénieur cycle: https://admission.gei-univ.fr

• ESPCI’s “admis sur titre” procedure concerning students in their second year of Bachelor in physics and chemistry allows applicants to integrate the first year of the ingénieur cycle at ESPCI:

B / Ingénieur cycle – Non-degree program:

a) Erasmus

ESPCI Paris is organized in winter semesters going from September to January and in Spring semesters going from February to June. At ESPCI Paris, courses are taught in French in the first and second year and in English in the third year.
Erasmus students selected for an exchange by their home university are welcomed to ESPCI Paris. However, they must follow a very demanding internal selection process, which must begin on average five months before the student’s arrival at ESPCI.
ESPCI Paris also welcomes foreign Erasmus students wishing to do their internship in our laboratories or in our administrative services. The application form should be sent to the department of Studies (anne.devulder (arobase) espci.psl.eu) and the International Relations office (international (arobase) espci.psl.eu). It includes a cover letter/professional project, a Curriculum Vitae, the grades and rankings of the past three years an one or two letters of recommendation.

b) Laboratory internships

© W. Parra
Every year, we receive students from all over the world to do their internships in our laboratories. These students come from specific exchange programs, which is the case for example with McGill University in Canada or Polytechnique Alger, Nanjing University, Georgetown, Yale, Moscow, Ghent, Tongji. According to the agreements, these internships can be validated by their home universities.
The offer of internships in our laboratories ranks from the Bachelor to the Master level. The link between the application of foreign students and the laboratories of ESPCI Paris is ensured by the International Relations office. In order to facilitate visa formalities, it is necessary to contact the school at least 6 months before. Internships cover all periods of the year.
